Окружные суды (действуют в соответствии с законом, принятым в 1947 в Новой Зеландии. В них занято ок. 100 судей, назначаемых генерал-губернатором. Рассматривают широкий круг гражданских и уголовных дел. Привлекают мировых судей {justices of the Peace} для вынесения решений по незначительным правонарушениям)
